On Sunday afternoon, the YU Macs (6-5, 4-1) will head up to Newburgh to face off against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (2-6, 0-2). The Macs are coming off of a disappointing loss against Manhattanville, their first defeat in conference play this season. The Knights come into this game having lost three straight and will be looking to avenge their five point loss against the Macs on November 15th.
MSMC has relied heavily on upperclassmen Connor Cyran and Jayden Figueroa this season; they are averaging 19.4 and 14.9 points per game respectively. They combined for 31 last time out against the Macs, and they will be looking for much more this time around. The Macs continue to be led by the three-headed monster of Zevi Samet, Max Zakheim, and Or Sundjyvsky. These three, who combine to average 57.7 points per game, accounted for 61 of the team’s 79 points in the first matchup against the Knights.
The Macs will look to bounce back against Mount Saint Mary
Strong Defense:
Neither Yeshiva or MSMC have been particularly good on the defensive end this season, as each allows over 79 points a game. Both teams are more than capable offensively, but the winner of this rematch will be the team that steps up defensively and limits their opponent’s scoring chances.
Limiting the Turnovers:
In their first matchup, these two teams turned the ball over way too many times, as MSMC had 20 and the Macs had 16. In tightly contested games like the ones these teams have played, taking care of the ball will be of utmost importance. Every possession is an important one, and this game could very well come down to the last possession.
