Sting Dominate: SAR Overwhelms Montreal in Statement Tier I Qualifier Win

Aaron Adler

In a Tier I Qualifier, the #5 SAR Sting defeated the #12 HA Montreal Heat by a score of 73-49. It was a game full of runs back and forth.

From the opening tip, SAR established its identity with an aggressive full-court press that kept the Heat on their heels. Their defensive intensity not only forced turnovers but also led directly to easy fastbreak points, allowing them to dictate the game’s tempo. Every missed shot by Montreal seemed to result in an SAR rebound, as the Sting dominated the offensive glass and created multiple second-chance opportunities.

Despite SAR’s early control, Montreal refused to let the game slip away. They answered with scrappy defense of their own, creating a handful of steals to slow down SAR’s momentum. Their defense paid off, as they kept the deficit manageable, trailing just 26-21 at halftime.

When the second half began, SAR flipped the switch and never looked back. Their press continued to be effective and smother the Heat. The Sting erupted in the third quarter, outscoring Montreal 27-15 to blow the game open.

On the other side, Montreal struggled to keep pace. Their offense, which had found ways to stay competitive in the first half, continued to struggle under SAR’s relentless pressure. They missed many point-blank buckets and found it increasingly difficult to generate quality shots in the half-court. Yaacov Ohayon fought hard, leading Montreal with 12 points, while Simon Alloul contributed 11, but their efforts weren’t enough to deliver their team an upset.

By the time the final buzzer sounded, SAR had delivered a dominant 73-49 victory, showcasing their ability to control the tempo and impose their will on both ends of the floor. Their win sends a clear message to the rest of the competition, that SAR is a team built to pressure opponents on defense and capitalize on every opportunity. Ari Halpert and Matteas Ellis led the charge for the Sting, slicing through the defense and finishing with 19 points each. Additionally, Sam Weiss provided a consistent scoring presence, contributing 17 points of his own.

SAR advanced to the Tier I quarterfinals where they will face TABC. Meanwhile, HA Montreal will regroup as they will face Maimonidies in the Tier II qualifiers.
