On Monday at 11 AM, the (15) MTA Lions will face off against the (17) HAFTR Hawks in the Tier III finals in the Max Stern Athletic Center.
After defeating HA Montreal in the quarterfinals, and doing the same to Maimonides in the semifinals, MTA will go up against their toughest opponent in Tier III play as of yet. Their big scorers, Gavriel Rudman, Daniel Wolk, and Yosef Shmuel, will be more important than ever. They will need to be hot from the outset, and must aim for at least 15 points in the first quarter to avoid needing to play catch-up against a defense that will be leaving everything on the court. Key to the Lions success will be overpowering the shorter and more shallow Hawks team.
HAFTR has cruised through Tier III play so far. Over the past couple of days, the Hawks have defeated two teams that were seeded higher than MTA. As mentioned, HAFTR has the height disadvantage in this one, so their bigger players will need to carry the Hawks through this game. Senior forward Haimy Salem will be key. With his 6”2 stature, he scored nearly a dozen points on Thursday vs (16) Berman. Sophomore guard, Kevin Levy, as well as senior center, Andrew Solinsky will be key for the Hawks’ offense as well.
This exciting Tier III finals matchup will tip-off from the Max Stern Athletic Center at 11 AM. This game will be broadcast by MacsLive; you can watch it live here.
