Preview, Tier II Qualifier: (15) MTA vs (18) Hillel

On Friday, March 25th, the 15th seeded MTA Lions will play against the 18th seeded Hillel Heat for a spot in Tier II. MTA is coming off a rough loss against Valley Torah in the Tier I qualifier yesterday. They lost that game 49-38. They will look to bounce back today by beating Hillel. They are going to need a big game from leading scorer, Gavriel Rudman. He’s an elite shooter off the dribble and will look to get the Lions going on offense early.

Hillel is playing in their first game of the tournament today. They finished their season with a 6-8 record and hope to surprise some people by upsetting MTA in this one. They played top Yeshiva League teams close this season, only losing by 2 points to both SAR and Ramaz. Look for the team’s leading scorer, Elliot Braha to be aggressive in this one.

Defense will play a huge role in this game. Whichever team can find a way to limit open looks and fast break opportunities will have a great chance at coming away with the win. Look for Ezra Halpert to be a difference-maker on that end for MTA. Hillel is going to have to do a good job limiting touches for Rudman if they want to hang in with the higher seeded Lions.

The winner of this matchup will continue in the Tier II Quarterfinals, while the lose will go to Tier III.

This Tier II qualifier will take place in the TABC Gym 2 and tip off will be at 10:30 am.
