Preview, Tier I Quarterfinal: (1) SAR vs (8) Flatbush

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

On Friday at 9:30 AM, the (9) Flatbush Falcons will face off against the (1) SAR Sting in the Max Stern Athletic Center. Flatbush will look to upset the Sting after narrowly defeating Katz on Thursday. Despite SAR’s tough loss to Ramaz in the Yeshiva League Championship earlier in the week, the Sting put up a very strong showing Thursday, beating Berman 52-36.

Flatbush managed 49 points on Thursday, only one more than that of their opponent. After falling just short of a lead in the first half, the Falcons put up a very strong third quarter with 18 points to put themselves ahead of Katz. Flatbush’s defense in the fourth quarter was then able to just barely hold back a Katz comeback. Starter and senior guard Irwin Azar, who put up 14 points and four assists, and senior guard Abie Saafa, who drained four three pointers off of the bench, will once again both need to step up their offense in order to power past SAR’s #1 seeded team. Starter Michael Falster will be another key to Flatbush’s success in controlling the ball following his nine rebounds and four steals on Thursday.

SAR held its own Thursday with its 52 points, holding Berman to just 36. The Sting offense did take a little while to get going out of the gate, but put up 16- and 17- point third and fourth quarters, respectively, to easily secure the win. Starter and senior guard Moshe Spirgel will look to replicate defensive performance in holding off Flatbush’s offense. Furthermore, junior guard Akiva Schanzer will look to put up similar offensive numbers as he did on Thursday when he hit three three-pointers as well as three two-pointers.

This exciting Tier I quarterfinal matchup will tip off from the Max Stern Athletic Center at 9:30 AM. The game will be broadcast by MacsLive and you can watch here.
