On Monday afternoon the (2) Valley Torah Wolfpack will face the (4) DRS Wildcats in the Tier I Championship. After trailing by 10 points in their semifinal game, DRS was able to climb back into the game and take down SAR by a score of 45-44. Valley Torah faced a daunting deficit as well against the TABC Storm, going down 18-5 early, but managed to come away with a 45-34 victory.
Just like in their first two games, Valley Torah’s aggressive press defense led them to victory. The Wolfpack were able to speed up TABC and disrupt their offensive flow, holding them to just 12 second half points. Johny Dan was aggressive on the offensive glass and caused problems for the Storm. It will be interesting to see how the Wildcats prepare to properly box him out and break the press. The last time the Wolfpack were in the Tier I was came in 2018 when they lost to Shalhevet.
Coming from behind is nothing new for the Wildcats either, as they started slowly against Shalhevet in their quarterfinal matchup, but managed to keep their composure and win the game. DRS has been getting strong play from Aryeh Ivry and Isaac Solomon, but it will be important for them to get help from others as well to beat Valley Torah’s stifling defense. The Wildcats last won a Tier I Championship in 2016 when they beat Shalhevet.
This Tier I matchup will take place at 2:00 PM in the Max Stern Athletic Center. The game will be broadcast by MacsLive; you can watch live here.
