Gameday Preview: Yeshiva vs St. Joseph's Brooklyn

Tonight at 8 PM, the Yeshiva University Maccabees (7-5, 5-1) will return home for a Skyline Conference matchup against the St. Joseph's University Brooklyn Bears (2-8, 1-1) in the Max Stern Athletic Center. The Macs have won 12 straight matchups versus the Bears with an average margin of victory of almost 25 points, dating back to the 2016-2017 season. The Bears are looking to build off their huge win against USMMA which snapped their four-game losing streak. The Bears are a two-headed monster, featuring Senior Evan Sirakis and Sophomore Jonathan Reno. Combined, the two players make up 48% of the Bears' scoring production. The Macs are looking to continue where they left off on Sunday, when they played one of their most complete games of the season on both sides of the ball.

The Macs will look to return home with a win against the St Joseph's Brooklyn Bears.

Home Sweet Home:

The Bears play significantly worse on the road, shooting just 32.5% and averaging just under 55 points a game. The Macs thrive off the energy of the crowd, constantly ripping off streaks of points and pulling away from their opponents. With this being the Macs’ first home game in December, the crowd will welcome the Macs back home and provide the energy. The Macs will look to channel this energy to continue their undefeated home Skyline Conference record.

Offensive Patience:

With the Bears running a zone defense, the Macs will need to be patient with their shot selection. The Bears will try to compel the Macs to play fast on offense, forcing them into quick shots and driving through apparent open lanes. The Macs will have to slow the pace down and have the patience to hit their cuts for easy buckets.

Staying Focused From the Jump:

The Macs have had historical success against Brooklyn, but cannot bank on the past. We saw this on Saturday when Brooklyn beat Merchant Marine; in the game of basketball, anyone can beat anyone. The Macs must stay focused from the jump and play hard for the full 40 minutes to win this game.
