The Macs will play the second game of a back-to-back on Sunday, November 7th, against Penn State-Schuylkill. Penn State-Schuylkill dropped their first two games of the season. The first was an 80-83 loss against Central Penn and the second loss was against Clarks Summit 68-76. They were led in those first two games by second year guard, Wilvens Flueizard, who is averaging 21.5 points per game while shooting 55% from the field. The Macs had a strong showing in their 90-54 opening win against Lycoming College. They took control of the game in the first half after ending the half on a 31-5 run, giving themselves a 26 point halftime lead. The Macs will look to complete their time at the Dutch Burch Tip Off with another win.
Keys to the game:
1. Control the Paint
The Macs had 52 points in the paint in their opening win against Lycoming College. The Macs were able to get great looks at the rim off of cuts and in transition. The Macs only made seven three pointers in the game which is low for their standards, but found other ways to score by driving to the basket. Penn State Schuylkill, allowed 38 points in the paint in their last loss against Clarks Summit. The Macs will need to continue to attack the rim and put pressure on the interior defense of Penn State Schuylkill. The Macs outrebounded Lycoming 44-29. The Macs will look to repeat this performance against Penn State Schuylkill, which has been outrebounded by an average of 16.5 rebounds in their first two games.
2. Strong Start
The Macs will need to come out the gate strong tomorrow. This can be a challenge given that they are on the second game of a back to back. The Macs started off a little slow in their first game with the game being tied at 16, before going on a dominant run to take a commanding lead into the half. Penn State Schuylkill is going to be hungry for a win after two disappointing losses to begin the season so the Macs will have to take control of this game early.
3. Balanced scoring attack
The Macs had 3 players who scored double digit points and six players who scored at least seven points in their win against Lycoming College. This highlights the scoring depth that the Macs possess. On any given possession, the Macs have a wide variety of players that can score which makes them extremely hard to defend. They face a Penn State Schuylkill team that had four players that scored in double figures in their last game. Both teams possess balanced offenses and will look to showcase them in this matchup.
The game will tip off at 2pm. Watch here.
