Coming off back to back victories, the Yeshiva University Macs (5-3, 3-0 Skyline) will look to preserve their undefeated Skyline record this year versus the Merchant Marine Mariners (3-2, 0-0 Skyline). In perhaps their toughest Skyline matchup so far, the Macs need to be able to show that they belong at the top of the conference. With the Mariners averaging just 69 points a game, the Macs will look to keep up their recent scoring output and take control of the game. The Macs will look to continue their recent torrid shooting over 50% from the field over the past 3 games. The Macs will try to maintain their undefeated home record versus the Mariners.
The Macs will look to improve to 4-0 in Conference play with a win over Merchant Marine on Wednesday.
Patient Ball Movement:
The Mariners have an elite defense this year, holding opponents to just 66 points a game, while shooting 39% from the field and just 21% from the three. Their intense defense is hard to prepare for as it leads to turnovers and fast paced buckets. The Macs will need to be patient with the ball and allow opportunities to present themselves.
Playing the Full Game:
Throughout the season the Macs have struggled during the first half, failing to find their rhythm and convert opportunities. The Macs need to come out strong and put on their best performance for the full 40 minutes in order to win this game.
Defending the Paint:
The Mariners focus on attacking the basket and hitting the backdoor pass. The Macs need to make sure they are seeing both man and ball and that they are in proper defensive coverage in the paint. They have to be able to match the Mariners energy and keep pace with their fast paced offense.
