On Sunday afternoon, November 13, the Yeshiva Maccabees will face the Webster University Gorloks in the tournament consolation matchup between teams that are both 0-2 for the season. Webster University lost in blowout fashion to UW-Stevens Point while Yeshiva played a close game against Illinois Wesleyan before falling 76-71. Both of these teams will be eager to get their first win of the season before they head back home to begin conference play.
Last night, the Macs fell to the Illinois Wesleyan Titans 76-71. They only trailed by one point after a 40 foot buzzer beater put the Titans up 37-36 at the end of the half. The Titans began to slowly extend their lead with multiple possessions, but the Macs kept the game in reach with the help of Zevi Samet’s 38 points, including eight three-pointers. Dothan Bardichev and Roy Itcovichi added nine and eight points, respectively. The Macs struggled to rebound and the Titans were able to get many second chance opportunities, which would prove to be the difference in a very close game.
Webster University has lost their first two games of the year by an average margin of 24.5 points per game. Webster lost its opener to Illinois College 61-45 before losing to UW-Stevens Point 80-47 in the first game of the Jack Sikma Invitational Tournament. Webster has struggled from the three-point line this season, shooting just four out of 28 from three-point range in their first two games.
Webster was led by Karl Moore Jr., who had 11 points and 12 rebounds to go along with 9 blocks in their loss vs Illinois College. He backed that performance up with a 14-point and 11-rebound performance against UW-Stevens Point. Moore will look to do damage in the paint and the Macs will have to focus on keeping him away from that area.
