On Saturday night, December 10, the Yeshiva University Maccabees will host the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph’s University of Long Island. The Macs are coming off a huge win against Old Westbury, where they put up 94 points. Zevi Samet had the hot hand in that game, shooting 8-16 from downtown and scoring 34 points. The offense has looked much better since the return of Max Zakheim. He provides another ball handler and decision-maker for the Macs, which allows the splash brothers Samet and Betesh to play off the ball and find ways to get good looks. Matan Zucker has played a huge role as a playmaker this season for the Macs, averaging 5.4 assists per game on the season in the motion offense. The Macs are looking to extend their little win streak to four in this one.
The Golden Eagles are 2-5 on the season but are coming off an impressively close loss to Farmingdale a few days ago. In that game, Ryan McNeely and Liam Sheehy combined for 24 points off the bench. Those guys are dangerous if they can get hot, especially McNeely, who is shooting nearly 40% from three on the year. Spencer Malloy has been the leader of this team so far, putting up 15 points per game and hauling in 8.6 boards per game as well. Xavier Allen is a guard who can torch you if he gets hot, but it’s all or nothing with him. He had a game with 34 points this season but followed it up with a five-point clunker two nights later. It’s going to be pivotal for the Macs to lock him down early and not let him get going.
