Gameday Preview: Men’s Basketball vs Old Westbury

On Saturday night, February 4, the Yeshiva University Maccabees will take on the Old Westbury Panthers. In their first matchup of the season, the Macs beat the Panthers 94-68 behind a 34-point performance from Zevi Samet. Since then, the Macs are 3-5, while the Panthers are just 2-10. The Panthers have struggled immensely this season and are now 2-16 overall, while the Macs are 11-9. A win for the Macs would make it 10 wins in a row against Old Westbury.

Old Westbury has allowed the most points per game in the conference at 83.3 points per game. They have failed to generate turnovers all season, as evidenced by their turnover margin ranking second to last in the conference. Their offense has also struggled to get going, shooting just 38% from the field and 27% from three.

The Panthers' most efficient offensive player has been Jordan Johnson-Rader, who scores just over nine points per game while shooting 52% from the field. Johnson-Rader does most of his scoring inside; he made just five threes all year. Zachary Cummings is the Panthers' leading scorer, with 12.3 points per game. Max Weinberg, who usually comes off the bench, led the team with 18 points on 8-13 shooting in a start against Merchant Marine on Wednesday. If the Macs can get out to a decent start shooting and bring defensive intensity, they will secure another win against the Panthers.
