Gameday Preview: Men’s Basketball vs Mount Saint Mary’s

On Saturday night, December 3, the Yeshiva University Maccabees will look to get back on track as they take on the Mount Saint Mary’s College Knights at the Max Stern Athletic Center. The Macs are coming off a humbling 108-67 defeat against NYU on Thursday night, so they’ll enter this one motivated to get back into the win column. The Knights have been a problem for Yeshiva in the past, winning 17 of 27 all-time matchups, but the Macs have taken the last three, including an 89-49 win back in January.

Mount Saint Mary’s enters the contest with a 2-5 record and on the heels of a crushing loss, losing on a buzzer-beater to SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday. The Knights are led by sophomore forward Jayden Figueroa, who is averaging 12.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, and junior forward Elijah Barnett, who is averaging 12.7 points per game. The Knights are a solid defensive team, with many players averaging over a steal per game, and they’ll be especially focusing on shutting down the Macs' knockdown shooters on the outside.

For the Macs, the key will be to find open looks and to take care of the ball. Against NYU, they struggled all night to get open looks from beyond the arc, shooting only 22 three-point attempts and making a mere six of them. This squad relies heavily on their three-point shooting, and they’ll need to focus on creating opportunities for their sharpshooters Zevi Samet and Oren Betesh in order to get back to their winning ways.
