On Tuesday night, November 29, the Yeshiva University Maccabees will head to Purchase, New York, where they will take on the Manhattanville Valiants in a rematch of last year's Skyline championship. A year ago, the Macs’ 74-40 victory against this team clinched their return to the NCAA tournament. It marked the Macs’ fifth win against Manhattanville in the five meetings between the teams. After a win against Amherst on Sunday, the Macs sit at 4-3, while the Valiants enter the matchup with a record of 4-2.
The Valiants are led by seniors Tommy Lotito and Jackson Leech; they carry the bulk of the scoring load, averaging 16 and 12.3 points per game, respectively. Both of them are currently shooting above 50% from the field. Graduate student Jake Dunn is a featured option on offense as well, scoring double digits in three of their six games this season for a Manhattanville team that averages just under 65 points per game.
Having taken almost 100 fewer three-pointers than the Macs have with only one less game, the Valiants do most of their scoring inside the arc. Averaging just six second-chance points per game, the Macs should look to continue limiting Manhattanville’s scoring opportunities and force them into one-and-done possessions.
