It seems as though the Yeshiva University Maccabees have forgotten how to lose basketball games. Their last loss came on November 29th, and they head into their Tuesday night matchup against the 13-8 College at Old Westbury riding a thirteen game winning streak.
After a so-so start to the season on the defensive end, the Macs have done a better job recently of making offensive possessions difficult for the opposition. In the past five games, YU is surrendering just 52.4 points per game. For comparison, the Division III league-leading Penn State Behrend are giving up 60.0 points a night.
The Macs continue to shoot the ball well from the perimeter, converting on 39.0 percent on their total looks from distance, led by Junior guard Simcha Halpert, who’s knocked down 61 shots from beyond the arc so far this season.
In their previous game against Sarah Lawrence College, the Macs led by just six at intermission but would go on to outscore the Gryphons by a tally of 38-29 in the second half to secure a 15-point victory.
YU managed just two double-digit scorers in that win, led by Halpert, who shot 7-for-16 en route to a team-high 22 points. Next on the scoring list was Junior forward Gabriel Leifer, who scored 19 points and came away with four steals.
The Old Westbury Panthers have three players averaging double-digit scoring numbers on the season. Their leading scorer is a Senior forward by the name of Alan McDonald, who in addition to averaging 18.1 points is pulling down 8.1 rebounds per game as well.
The game is set to tip-off at 8:00 PM and you can catch the game, as you always can, right here on macslive.com, or on Facebook live.
