On Wednesday night, January 26th, the Yeshiva Maccabees will travel to Mount Saint Mary College to battle the Knights. The Macs look to get back on track with a win tonight, as they dropped their last game and snapped their 50 game winning streak against Illinois Wesleyan on December 30th. Yeshiva now has a record of 14-1 and are ranked 7th in the D3 poll. The Knights enter this game with a 5-9 record and are 3-3 in conference play. They are currently on a three game losing streak. The Knights are led by junior guard Chris Yearwood, who averages 14.5 points per game and shoots an impressive 41% from behind the arc. The last matchup between these two teams was on February 5th, 2020, when the Macs took care of business 82-65. Also, it is important to note that no fans will be allowed to attend this game due to COVID-19 protocols.
Keys to the game:
Three Point Shooting:
In Yeshiva’s last game against Illinois Wesleyan, the Macs started off shooting 0-9 from three and finished the game an abysmal 5-20 from behind the arc. Even though their record doesn’t show it, the Knights only allow their opponents to shoot 28.7% from three. Yeshiva’s sharpshooters and screen setters will have to work hard and smart to create decent looks for themselves from downtown.
Force Turnovers:
The Knights average a whopping 18.1 turnovers per game compared to Yeshiva’s 11.7. The Macs should be pressuring the ball and flying into passing lanes all night against this careless Knights team. Creating turnovers will lead to fast break opportunities for the Macs.
Rebounding:
Last game was a rebounding nightmare for Yeshiva. They got out-boarded 42-21, and allowed Matthew Leritz to grab 25 rebounds on them. Both the Macs and the Knights average about 38 rebounds per game. If Yeshiva doesn’t want a repeat of their performance against Illinois Wesleyan, they will need to box out their opponents and be physical down low.
How to Watch:
Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 PM and will be broadcasted here.
