We’ll look to see an interesting day one battle between #6 ranked SAR Sting from New York against #11 ranked Valley Torah Wolf Pack from Los Angeles. Valley Torah finished their season at 21-11 and an 8-2 record in the Heritage league while SAR went 9-5 in MYHSAL. The winner of this game will advance to Tier I, while the loser will be bumped to a Tier II qualifier game on Friday.
SAR is led by head coach Rafi Halpert, with their star point guard Judah Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer leads the team in scoring, averaging 23 points per game, leading many to believe Judah is one of the best players in the tournament.
Valley Torah is coached by Lior Schwartzberg. Starting center Akiva Kamornick leads the Wolfpack in points and rebounds, averaging 14 and 12 respectively, while point guard Liorel Bitton has been leading the aggressive defense with 3 steals per game. Valley is reeling from last seasons success without current YU Macs star in Ryan Turell on the squad; however, they still look like they can compete in the top Tier, despite not being the dominant team from last season.
SAR will be favored to win as the higher ranked seed, but if there is a game to look out for a potential upset this may be the one.
