Gameday Preview: #2 Magen David vs. #6 SAR

Updated: Sep 2, 2019

In one of the primetime matchups of Sarachek Sunday, the #6 SAR (Riverdale, NY) Sting will face off against the #2 Magen David (Brooklyn, NY) Warriors in a Tier I semifinals matchup that will surely prove to be a thriller.

The Sting have generated a lot of buzz this tournament thus far. It began on Thursday with a thrilling, buzzer-beater victory over Valley Torah, and continued Friday with a pre-Shabbos upset of #3 Frisch. The Sting will look to continue their improbable run behind senior sensation, point guard Judah Oppenheimer, who has been compared to NBA All-Star Steph Curry on the MacsLive broadcast, and senior forward Drew Greenbaum.

Magen David has only played one game in this tournament to this point; an absolute nail-biter over #7 Maimonides that was certainly too close for comfort for coach Ike Dweck. They do have the advantage of fresher legs, but they’ll need to be careful against a team as hot as SAR. Look to see a lot of tight defensive coverage and fast-paced offense for the Warriors, utilizing the blazing speed of two of their star players, junior guard Albert Nsiri and senior forward Ray Jajati, together with the always excellent play of senior Michael Natkin.

In what has the potential to be one of the most exciting games of Sarachek 2019, one question needs to be answered. Is the hot-streak that SAR is currently riding enough to upset one of the most talented teams in the tournament? Tune in at 4:30 eastern on MacsLive, the official broadcast network of Yeshiva Sports and exclusive home of the Red Sarachek Tournament, to find out.
