Ariel Diner’s energetic play and Akiva Garner’s leadership helps Beren to a 12-point win

Updated: Sep 2, 2019

Quick three pointers by Beth Tfiloh Seniors Harris Gartenhaus and Gav Landau propelled Beth Tfiloh to a quick 8-2 lead. Freshman Ariel Diner propelled his team to a 5-0 run, and after a quarter of play, Beth Tfiloh was up by three.

In the second quarter, Gartenhaus continued to dominate, scoring the milestone 1,000th point of his career. The quarter was back and forth, as Beth Tfiloh led by three at halftime.

In the third quarter, the game started to turn Beren’s way. They scored five unanswered points to take the lead thanks to precise ball movement and Ariel Diner’s aggressiveness to the basket. They led by three points after the third.

In the fourth, Beren locked down on defense, not allowing a point until Gav Landau’s three pointer with four minutes to go in the fourth. Akiva Garner, despite his three fouls, played lock-down defense and led the scoring charge. Ariel Diner’s and-one iced the game, as Beren lead by seven with two minutes to go. Beren finished the game off excellently, breaking Beth Tifloh’s press to win by 12 points.

Beren advances to the Tier III championship.
