(8) Magen David Uses Balanced Attack to Take Down (9) DRS

Updated: Oct 29, 2023

The third matchup of the day featured the 8th-seeded Magen David Yeshiva Warriors (MDY) taking on the 9th-seeded DRS Wildcats. With a heartbreaking defeat to Valley Torah in last year's championship, DRS looked to leave it all in the past and were poised to begin another deep run with hopes of winning a Tier I championship.

The first quarter saw MDY take advantage of their height, grabbing four offensive rebounds and finishing the quarter up 12 to 6. DRS struggled with shot-making in the first half, with their one bright spot being Aiden Buchbinder, who finished the half with six points keeping the deficit within reach.

The third quarter saw MDY continue to use a balanced attack. Jesse Cohen and Asher Melamed got their scoring totals up to 10 points, and the Warriors took a seven-point lead into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was more of the same. DRS played hard, but MDY’s athleticism, rebounding, and shot-making were too much to handle. The game ended with the final score of 54 to 36, seeing MDY advancing to the quarterfinal of Tier I and DRS falling to Tier II.
